What is GM Diet?

The GM diet or General Motor diet plan is a 7 days diet regime that is great for weight loss, body cleansing, detoxification & rejuvenation of your body!

Introduced by the General Motor company in 1982 to promote & motivate employees' health and wellness, it soon gained popularity because of its excellent outcome. It's very effective for weight loss & gets rid of toxins in your body.

How GM Diet Plan Works?

GM diet comprises 7 days diet plan, each day emphasizes on specific kind of food loaded with lots of fiber & nutrients, which not only help to shed extra pounds but also to cleanse & rejuvenate your system by removing all toxins from your body as a result you feel so light & energetic.

7 Day GM Diet Plan


Day 1

Plan for Day 1:
  • Consume only fruits except for banana
  • Drink at least 8 to 10 glass of water throughout the day
  • No restriction on the number of fruits and time of day to eat
  • Watermelon is the preferred fruit for triggering weight loss
  • Prefer watery foods to loose up to 3 pounds in a day
  • you can drink green, black coffee or even one cup of tea with milk if you can't resist.

Day 2

Start the next day with one big boiled potato stir fry & sprinkle Little salt this is just to kick start your day with a small portion of carbohydrates that help to stay energized. For the whole day consume only vegetables you can have all kinds of vegetables cooked( with minimum salt & oil)  or raw, no restriction of quantity. Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water.


Day 2 GM Diet Plan


Day 3 

Day 3 is to consume both fruits and vegetables,  vegetables cooked or raw can be eaten, all fruits except Banana can be consumed along with 8 to 10 glasses of water.

Day 4

On Day 4, we have to eat at least 4 to 5 bananas & 3 glasses of milk, drinks water in plenty. Since banana is rich in pectin & potassium this helps you feel much fuller & soothe your digestive system. 


Day 5 

Day 5 is for protein, you have to consume at least 250 grams of protein along with 6 to 8 tomatoes for the whole day. protein like grilled chicken, steamed fish,  boiled eggs are good options, vegetarian people can choose options like grilled paneer or saute tofu with veggies or soya kebabs, or you can consume brown rice with veggies as well. It's very important to consume at least 10 to 12 glasses of water to get rid of uric acid produced by tomatoes consumption.

Day 5 GM Diet Plan


Day 6

This is another day for protein indulgent with lots of vegetables. 250 grams of protein is recommended for the whole day. 

Day 6 GM Diet Plan


You can combine protein with grilled vegetables or brown rice ... Interesting combos like paneer gravy with brown rice, saute vegetables with tofu in harissa sauce or smoked chicken with brown rice or grilled veggies are so fancy & delicious. For dinner soup loaded with vegetables is highly recommended. Don't forget to drink plenty of water. Don't worry you are almost there.....!!

Day 7

You are on the finishing line, The last day of the GM diet is a combination of fruits, vegetables, protein, fiber & even little carbohydrates too. A small portion of carbs recommends with a moderate amount of protein, veggies, and fruits along with 8 to 10 glasses of water.

Day 7 GM Diet Plan


You can start your day with fruits ... Followed by a bowl of salad then a healthy meal consist of protein, veggies & brown rice, sugar free juices can also be consumed. Avoid dairy, cheese, mangoes, bananas, lentils on this day.

Here's the summary of the GM diet plan, it's better to avoid high-intensity workout during this diet on the other hand take a one-hour brisk walk or performance yoga to feel better. 

 After completion of this diet, you will feel much lighter and active. It has lots more advantages than you can think of.

  • As most of the articles claim, the GM diet will help to lose at least 7  to 5 kilos. It does not apply to everyone's case. 
  • As if you are overweight, you can lose up to 5 kgs within a week, but if you are already on your health regime ( ideal on BMI index )  then perhaps you will lose 2 to 3 kgs within a week.
  • You might face weakness & fatigue as you are having lesser calories.
  • People with bad immunity may face complications like headaches and bloat.
  • You may lose your muscle mass caused by low-calorie intake. 
  • If you are already on diet, & started GM diet, it might have an adverse impact on your health leads to slow down your metabolism, it's advisable to switch from your fuller diet to a GM diet for positive results. 
  • You are advised to avoid high-intensity workout, it might lead to health risk during this diet.
  • Advisable to stay home and take rest coz outing & strain make you feel weak
  • The GM diet is not sustainable, it doesn't fulfill your daily requirements of micronutrients.  
  • If you are not watchful, After completion of this diet, you will put on all  your lost weight, so be careful with your calorie intake

My Few Cents on The GM Diet Plan:

Though I am a firm believer in balance & sustainable diet, this is best for long term health goals, the GM diet is best suited for people who want to switch their daily routine from good to better and then to the best.

Analyzing the pros and cons of the GM diet I must say, if you follow this diet with full caution & right timings you will get positive & excellent outcomes, 

Researches are suggested that it has lot more benefits besides only weight loss, as for my experience, always do it twice in three months or whenever you feel so much bloated, especially if you returned from functions or holidays where you had lots of junks, it helps to get rid of all toxins & unwanted fat. So get set go for it to accelerate your healthy lifestyle......!!!!
